Toole’s Family Hotel Tibooburra (Hotel/Motel)

Toole's  Family Hotel in Tibooburra was built in 1882 by Francis Bladon.

Originally known as the Tattasall's Hotel its name was changed to Downie's Family Hotel in 1887, and has since retain its title of the "Family", despite having had eighteen owners in its 128 year history.

At one time the hotel was part of the Cobb and Co network and some of the original horse stables remain standing today.

Constructed of locally quarried sandstone with a verandah along the front, the hotel has become famous as the outback pub with murals on the walls. During the 1960s Australian artists Clifton Pugh, Russell Drysdale and others spent several weeks painting in the outback. 

Using the Family Hotel as a base, and the outback as their inspiration, they added their own style of art to walls within the hotel.

Other artists have contributed their works, making the walls a "living" art gallery.

Today, the hotel is owned by the Toole Family, Kathy and Dan, who offer their own style of  friendly outback hospitality to locals and travellers alike.

Hailing from Ipswich, Queensland, in 2009, the family loves their "desert-change" lifestyle.
