Injune Where Country Is Festival (Outback Festivals)

The South-Western Queensland town of Injune may be small with a population of  only 370 people, however, the Injune ‘Where Country Is’ Festival is certain to be a ‘big’ deal!

An hour north of Roma, and about 7 hours north-west of Brisbane lies the former ‘cattle and dairy hub’ town of Injune. Surrounded by scenic national parks including Carnarvon Gorge, Ka Ka Mundi, Mt Moffatt, Salvator Rosa,  Nuga Nuga, Lonesome, Expedition and Beilba; Injune is the perfect place to relax and enjoy life or explore some of outback Australia’s most stunning natural attractions; and what better time is there to do this then during the Injune ‘Where Country Is’ Festival.

The ‘Where Country Is’ Festival is 7 days of festivities celebrating some of Injune’s fascinating history.

The festival includes; the annual Injune Tourism art show, the memorial sign unveiling - dedicated to the coal miners of the old Maranoa Collieries Coal Mine site, the plaque unveiling at the site of the ‘Lonesome Plane Crash’ and dedication of headstones on unmarked graves at the Old Injune cemetery including access to these interesting historical sites.

The highlight of the week is Music in the Amphitheatre (held at Wallaroo Station, 70km north of Injune) including Poets Breakfast and historical ‘tag-a-long tour’ of Wallaroo Station.

Music in the Amphitheatre will be featuring well known artists –Ged and Trudy Hintz, Tamworth finalist Chris Pritchard as well as Chester Wilson. MC for the evening and host of the ‘Poets Breakfast’ will be Gary Fogarty.

There will be FREE ‘self-sufficient’ camping at Wallaroo Station available from 10 am.

For a week full of festivities, honouring the history of Injune, come along to the Injune ‘Where Country Is’ festival and celebrate the town, its history and its people.
