Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic (Fishing)

Fishing is just the beginning!

The most family friendly and richest freshwater fishing event in Queensland is back once again with three days of non-stop action!

Located and hosted at picturesque Lake Moondarra, 15 kilometres North of Mount Isa the annual Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic promises a weekend jam packed with fun and excitement for all tastes and age groups.

Hosted by the Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group the Fishing Classic raises funds for the Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group.

The activities of the 2012 Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic will kick off on the evening of  Thursday October 25th with the enaugural special guest slide show at the Buffs Club, followed by all the action at the Lake from 12 noon Friday 26th and fishing action from 6pm Friday 26th.

The weekend wraps up on Sunday 28th with the awards presentation complete with special guest appearances, great food, bar facilities, entertainment and the drawing of the Mount Isa Fish Stocking Groups 2012 Boat Raffle.

Packed into the three days the 2012 Fishing Classic will showcase some all new activities, special guests, a record prize pool, including a whopping $50,000 up for grabs for the lucky angler who snags the Mount Isa Water Board tagged Barra, over 30 prize categories and all the much loved favourites such as:

  • A Fireworks Spectacular
  • The Mount Isa Chamber of Commerce Dragon Boat Regatta
  • Beach volleyball competition
  • Yabby races
  • Casting competitions
  • Live bands
  • Activities for the kids, including jumping castles
  • Trade exhibits

NOMINATIONS, CATEGORIES & PRIZES

Nomination forms will be available online and in person at supporting businesses from August and at the event from 12 noon Friday 26th October.

Nominations are available for $30.00 adults and $10.00 juniors (15-years-old and under).

GETTING HERE

The 2012 Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic will be held at Black Rock, Lake Moondarra, located 15 kilometres North of Mount Isa.

Mount Isa is located 200 kilometres from the Northern Territory border and 1,829 kilometres from Queensland's capital, Brisbane. The nearest major city, Townsville, can be found 883 kilometres from city.

It is accessed by direct flights from Brisbane, Townsville, Cairns, Darwin and the Gold Coast.

Mount Isa as undergone a transformation in recent years. Once know as being a rough and ready mining town, it now boasts a metropolitan feel with trendy bars, coffee houses and boutique shops. The small town community spirit lives on through a force of dedicated locals who organize events such as the famous Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic and Isa Rodeo.

ACCOMMODATION

Mount Isa has a wide variety of accommodation available ranging from 4 and a half star Hotels to motels, caravan parks and backpacker hostels.

During the competition overnight camping is permitted within specific areas of Lake Moondarra.
