Milparinka Gymkhana (Outback Festivals)

The remote pastoral town of Milparinka about 300kms north of Broken Hill is known for a few things - its gold mining history, heritage buildings and hospitality to name a few, but all that is overshadowed by the Milparinka Gymkhana and Family Day.

Highlights of the day include: the Milparinka Hotel Cup horse races, mens and womens barrel races and "slice the melon". Best described as a cross between jousting and tent pegging but using a machette to slice a suspended paddy melon, this fun outback event has become a hit in the 60+ years that the gymkhana has been held.

There are dozens of outback events to keep you entertained and the kids as well; including toy library and non horse events.

Generous prize money is on offer over the day.

1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Ribbons for all events

Horse events Trophies: U17 - 1st, 2nd and 3rd

Open 1st, 2nd  and Non horse Events trophies for 1st place only

Fully catered with a licenced bar (no byo) and live entertainment on Saturday night this fun day is not to be missed. When you drag yourself out of the swag on Sunday morning there will be a full cooked breakfast on offer to start you off on a couple (or few) days of exploring this fascinating part of Corner Country Outback NSW.
