McDonalds Charters Towers Country Music Festival (Country Music)

Country music fans are in for a real treat this year at the McDonalds Charters Towers Country Music Festival.

Held on the May Day Long weekend each year the richly historic outback city comes to life with the cream of Country Music Talent.

Names like Jade Hurley, The McClymonths, Marcus Meirer, The Anthony Taylor Band, Dave Prior and the very funny Wickety Wak Boys will entertain the crowds whilst around 800 contestants will vie for their share of the lime light and over $25,000 in prize money making this Australia’s largest Country Music Talent Quest.

From humble beginnings in 1978 the festival continues to grow against a backdrop of one of Outback Australia’s best presented heritage cities founded on gold mining and pastoral activities.

Proceeded by the All Australian Jamboree, the McDonalds Charters Towers Country Music Festival brings thousands of music fans to enjoy all that Charters Towers has to offer together with Bush Poetry, Line Dancing, Street Parade, Shop Displays, Buskers, the Talent Quest – including previous winners and of course the Country Music stars.

Inexpensive, well presented camping facilities at the Charters Towers Show Grounds will be available to weekend pass holders.

You can also check out some of the town’s other accommodation options here.

It’s our biggest weekend of the year here in Charters Towers and we’d like to see you experience our part of the Queensland Outback.

The “world” as Charters Towers is known is located on the Overlanders Way  the running from Townsville to Tennant Creek- one of Australia’s exciting drives.

Pitstop to the Creek encompasses 2 world class festivals starting with the Julia Creek Dirt and Dust Festival  and on to Charters Towers.

Make sure you allow enough time to explore this beautiful part of outback Australia.
