Boulia Camel Races (Camel Races)

Part of the Western Queensland Camel Festival.

Its Camel Cup Time!

This must-see event at the Show Grounds in Boulia consists of three nights and two days packed with thrilling entertainment, including camel races. The most prominent races are the Quarter-Mile Flyer and the Camel Cup.

The event attracts people from all over the world and the town bursts at the seams with around 3000 people attending the weekend.

The racing weekend kicks off on the Friday evening with a twilight camel race, steer ride and a concert.

Saturday sees the start of the camel race heats to determine which camels will make it into the finals on Sunday to win the silver and gold cups. All throughout the day there is track entertainment of the fun family type, with foot races and other comic events. 

On the Saturday afternoon, there is a rush to the arena to see the Camel Tagging event which has been growing in  popularity over the years and is now one of the major attractions of the weekend.  Monster fireworks light up the night sky  before  another great concert to round off the day.

Sunday morning, tension is in the air for the running of the Boulia Cups, camels, jockeys, trainers and handlers are all hoping that this year will be the one they take home the trophies.

Throughout the weekend there is entertainment in the form of market stalls, childrens amusements, camel rides sky diving, belly dancers and much more. A catered kitchen and a bar operate within the specified hours.
