Winton QBOA Opal Festival
The Queensland Boulder Opal Association’s Winton Opal Festival brings together miners, buyers, retailers, exporters, jewellers and the public in a social atmosphere to trade, sell and admire Australia's national gemstone.
A variety of Queensland Boulder Opal will be on offer in all forms – rough, faced, cut and set into jewellery. The trading areas shall start in the Beer Garden of the North Gregory Hotel flowing into the car park where the tailgaters will be set up to do their trading.
Saturday morning also sees the Cobb Lane markets joining in on the trading with a variety of stalls.
A Boulder Opal Jewellery Design Competition will be held for the novice as well as the professional jeweller. A Dress Design Competition is to held again, in which the dress design has to be inspired by Opal. The exhibits in these competitions will be paraded and the winners announced at a Gala Dinner Dance held on the Saturday night as the grand finale of the Opal Festival.
1. Student/Novice: 1st prize $1,000 Any form of Jewellery up to a retail value of $2,500.
2. Professional: 1st prize $2,000 Any form of Jewellery – retail value is open ended.
The Boulder Opal Dress Design Competition will have two categories from which 10 finalists shall be chosen, and from these a 1st prize of $1,000 will be awarded.
