Clermont is a small country town of 2,400 people. The Clermont Caravan Park is a spacious park located in a quiet part of the town. The park looks out to open fields. The park has 94 powered sites and very good amenities. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

You can get information on gold fossicking, Hood's Lagoon Complex, the Old Copperfield Store and Chimney, Clermont Museum, Theresa Creek Dam, Historical Mural, Blair Athol Coal Mine Tour, Wolfgang Peak and the Lord's Table Mountain.

Blair Athol Mine Tours -This tour also includes a visit to the museum and various sites around Clermont. The tour of the mine is free, but there is a $6.00 admission at the Museum which includes a morning tea. Bookings are essential and can be made by phoning Wombat Wonderer’s on 0749833292 or at the Tourist Information Office. No private vehicles will be permitted on the mine site.

Gold Fossicking – Before fossicking can begin it is necessary to obtain a fossickers licence. These can be purchased from the Department of Mines and Energy, or from Clermont Detectors in the Clermont Caravan Park. There are five types of fossickers licences: individual, family, club, educational organisation and commercial tour operator. Licences are issued for varying terms up to 12 months and they start from as little as $5.55.

Fossicking kits and licenses are obtained at the Gold Detector Shop. The hire charge is $150. The kit includes maps for general fossicking areas, and these are the only areas where visitors can legally fossick. Care should be taken not to trespass on leased land. If the thought of all that hard work panning for gold does not appeal to you then why not hire a gold detector from Clermont Detectors (phone 07 49 832 002 / 0419 682 600) from $50.00 per day. Many fine nuggets have been found over the past few years by people using gold detectors. Lessons on using the detectors are available. Visit the Clermont Detectors website.
