The Walk In Mine is the original Tourist Mine established in 1963 by Sandy (Amos) Randell.

Situated on the Opal Fields of 'Bald Hill' overlooking the valleys and Ridges it is within a 2 min drive from the town Centre and is a MUST SEE tourist attraction for visitors to the 'Ridge'

The Mine still remains much the same as it did in the early 60's and this gives the visitor
a real sense and feel of what opal mining is all about and the blood, sweat and tears that the miners go through to find that elusive Gem the Lightning Ridge 'Black Opal' .

An informative talk on the various types of Opals is given in our Opal/Jewellery Showroom along with samples shown of Opal in the rough .

An insight into the lifestyle and the characters that make their home in the Ridge is shown on video and it tells their story and why they came here in search of their 'fortunes'

The mine is easily accessible by means of steps and a handrail.

So come along and visitor this unique mine and get a sense of what Opal mining is all about .
