Blair Athol Coal Mine
Booking a Blair Athol Coal Mine Tour should be one of the first things on the list for visitors to Clermont.
Blair Athol Coal Mine Tours leave Clermont twice a week. Coal was first discovered at Blair Athol, which is located 22 kilometres north of Clermont in 1864. Through out the two and a half hour coal mine tour visitors will learn about the mine and how it is Australia’s largest exporter of thermal coal.
Central Queensland is known for having the best coal in Australia. The coal was formed in the Bowen Basin approximately 300 million years ago and now accounts for 83% of Queensland’s coal production. You can explore the mines at Moranbah’s Peak Downs Mine or Clermont’s Blair Athol Mine on a guided tour with local experts.
The Blair Athol Mine Tour operates every Tuesday and Friday. Tours depart from Rose Harris Park, Capella Street, Clermont at 8:45am. The tour includes a comprehensive mine tour, the town’s sights, local Museum and historic Copperfield.
A $6 fee is charged per person for entry into the Museum and includes morning tea. Bookings are essential.
