Getting out exploring Australia’s unique fossil record and dinosaur discovery sites has never been easier.

Guided Tours are run daily from the Matilda Country Tourist Park in our fleet of mini buses.

We are happy to pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation.

Experienced guides from Matilda County Tours will share their local knowledge and tell you a few good yarns as well as provide you with morning tea and refreshments stopping along the way for you to take photos of wildlife and this unique outback Australian countryside.

Outback wildlife that our tours regularly see include: Emus, Wedge-tailed Eagles, Plains Turkeys, Camels, Kangaroos, Brolgas, Snakes, Spinifex Pigeons and the very special Rufus Crowned Emu Wren found only in a few remote locations including Lark Quarry!

Lark Quarry Dinosaur Footprints Tour…

On this half day tour our experienced guides will take you  through some amazing outback country including Channel Country (the water from here could end up in South Australia’s famous Lake Ayer), stopping for you to capture the amazing changes of the landscape; from endless plains of Mitchell grass to Spinifex and rich red dirt.

We stop at the picturesque picnic area with time for morning tea before heading into the Dinosaur Stampede National Monument for your personal and informative guided tour of this world famous exhibit.

Tours depart Daily at 8.00am

Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum Tour…

As we travel from Winton towards Longreach to the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum you will experience the stunning landscape including the “jump ups”, flat plains and unusual rock formations. At our first stop you will meet the scientists currently working on the real and newly discovered fossils, here you will be taken through the laboratory and see firsthand how the pain staking work is carried out.

After your visit with the scientists, you have the opportunity to stroll along the 500 metre or so path to the Age of Dinosaur Museum where you will be taking into the temperature controlled room to view the bones of several types of newly discovered Australian Dinosaurs.

Your guide will explain what they are, how they were found and compare their size with modern day animals.

Your visit will conclude with the opportunity to browse through the souvenir shop and then it’s into the bus and back to your accommodation

The Dinosaur Trail Tour…

An early start see’s you heading to Richmond via morning tea at the historic Corfield Hotel, back on the bus arriving in time for a 2 hour guided tour of Kronosaurus Korner learning about the marine fossils that have been discovered. Kronosaurus Korner is also home to Australia’s best preserved dinosaur skeleton.

Your guides will take you for a picnic lunch where you will have time to recharge before heading to Hughenden for your next exciting 2 hour tour of the Flinders Discovery Centre; home to a full skeleton of the Muttaburrasaurus and a large fossil display.

You will have time to take plenty of photos and visit the souvenir shop before getting back on the bus for the trip back to Winton.

Afternoon tea will be provided on the way home at a special location.

Arriving home early in the evening.
