Sweers Island Gulf of Carpentaria Tours and Attractions

Sweers Island Resort

"Friendly" is the word most often used to describe this small, low-key island resort owned and operated by Tex and Lyn Battle since 1987.

Situated in the bottom right corner of the Gulf of Carpentaria, 20 miles off the coast and a world away from everywhere!

Sweers is famous for fishing, but there are many facets to this jewel in the Gulf – sandy beaches with safe swimming, abundant birdlife free from feral predators, a rich history dating back to the Dutch explorers of the 1600s, and the spectacular Morning Glory Cloud which occurs in September and October each year.

Sweers can be accessed by charter aircraft from the nearby Gulf towns of Burketown or Karumba (check our website below for more way to get here) and private pilots are welcome, there is no landing fee.

Choppers can land right beside the cabins!

Sweers also has developed a reputation for great food, with fresh fish and homestyle meals featuring on the menu.

Cooks Lyn and Lee enjoy cooking and experimenting on the guests, who are welcome to join in the fun!

Mick can be relied upon to find the best fishing spot, and Tex will enthrall you with tales of the island throughout the years, right back to the Dreamtime, with the island being home to several Story Places of the local Kaiadilt Aboriginal People.
