About Gulargambone

Gulargambone is a small town in the central west plains of NSW, along the Castlereagh Hwy between Gilgandra and Coonamble and first settled in the 1880’s. Its position on the banks of the Castlereagh River makes Gulargambone a popular stopover and the Warrumbungle Mountains National Park and Siding Spring Observatory are a mere 65kms away offering camping, bird watching and bushwalking.

The town is famous for its sense of community spirit when Gulargambone opened Australia’s first community owned Post Office after their Australia Post office faced closure in 2000. Other projects followed including a new Multi Purpose Health Service and an award winning community run Café 2828 - café, art gallery, visitor information centre, theatrette and hospitality training facility.
