About Tibooburra

Part of Corner Country N.S.W

Located 1187 kms from Sydney and 380 kms north of Broken Hill Tibooburra has a population of approx. 161.

Gold was found around Tibooburra in 1880 producing goldrush fever but as many propsectors found the location to be inhospitable they soon moved on and by the turm of the 20th century gold prospecting had been replaced by large sheep stations.

Tibooburra had remained remote for many years because of rough unsealed roads, but with the popularity of 4WD driving, and ever increased bitumen roads, it became within comfortable reach of the tourism industry and is fast becoming a new destination to visit.

The abundance of wildflowers that bloom across the desert plains after the rain is an experience not to be missed.

Town attractions inlcude: Tibooburra Outback school of the air, national parks, granite outcrops, historical buildings and gold rush relics.
