About Moranbah
Welcome to Moranbah
In 1968 a proposal was put forward to the then Shire Clerk, Mr. Peter Lawrence for the construction of a new town which would house approximately 400 employees of the Goonyella Coal Mine.
Shortly afterwards 1100 acres of land was purchased from Mrs. E.M. Hannan’s “Moranbah Lease”. The land then became Crown Land with the Utah Development Company being given special priority lease on the land. Upon acquisition of the land, the building of the township of Moranbah commenced.
The town has since grown to incorporate a substantial amount of local businesses as well as an extraordinary array of things to do when the residents are in recreation mode.
