Outback Towns
Bowen
Bowen is located between the far north Queensland towns of Townsville and Mackay
About Bowen
Located just 2 hours’ drive north from Mackay or 2 hours south of Townsville with a population of just over 10,000 people, Bowen has a relaxed atmosphere, yet there is so much to see and do.
Although famous for the Bowen Mango as well as a wide range for table fruits and vegetables; Bowen’s beautiful beaches are a real surprise package, where you can snorkel, and fish, swim or just relax at any of them – there are many to choose from.
Flagstaff hill offers 360 views of the beaches, harbour and township; you can take a stroll along the harbour foreshore where you will find shady picnic tables, a water park for the kids, interesting facts about Bowen’s part in the bombing of Darwin and the long harbour jetty.
Take a stroll around the town to see many murals that depict Bowen’s history and if you’re looking for history then the Historical Museum would be a place to visit.
Bowen has warm days and cool breezes at night with the warmest month being January and the coolest month is July; ideal for the diverse economy of agriculture, fishing, tourism and mining (the town of Collinsville is about an hour’s drive west of Bowen)
