About Greenvale

Greenvale is on the Gregory Developmental Road 210kms North of Charters Towers and not far from the Burdekin River. The township was built in the 1970s to house almost 3000 workers for the nearby Greenvale Nickel mine which operated between 1973 and 1993. Whilst some smaller mines and mining exploration still operate in the area the town’s population is nearer 150 today.

Greenvale is home to the famed Three Rivers Hotel, made popular when Slim Dusty sang the song penned by Stan Coster as Coster worked on the construction of the railway line nearby. The town’s facilities include The Hotel, a Caravan Park, Roadhouse & Fuel Supplies, The Rural Transaction Centre, shops and services.
