About Jackson

Jackson is a wayside stop on the Warrego Highway west of Dulacca.

Set slightly off the hiqhway, Jackson could probably be missed as you blinked, and probably doesn't hold a lot as far as tourism goes, but like most of these little western towns is certainly full of characters.

The town basically consists of the Community Hall, St Faith's Anglican Church, mechanical workshop, small bottle tree nursery, a handful of homes, more old car relics than the actual population and the original schoolhouse, "The Old Play Shed".

"The Old Play Shed" is certainly worth taking 10 minutes to vear off the Warrego Hwy, just to put yourself in the picture of how bush children were once schooled.
The small building was originally constructed to the south of the town, but has recently been set in the 'main' st, and has been restored and fitted with a rainwater tank, and acts as a nice quiet little spot to pull up for a cup of tea.

"The House of Papers" is also an unofficial attraction that you will not miss once taken the first turn into town. The

The Warrego Highway passes through the Darling Downs which are essentially flat, agricultural regions, to Dalby, Miles and into the last main centre Roma. The highway heads further west into vast beef and cattle farming districts through Mitchell, Morven and finally Charleville.
