Hobart - Australia's second oldest Capital City

About Hobart

The Capital of Tasmania, Australia’s second oldest capital city Hobart was founded in 1804 to be used as a penal colony and in August 1842 Hobart became a city.

Mount Wellington overlooks Hobart and the beautiful Derwent River including Hobart’s port; this deep-water port services Australian and French Antarctic operations and is considers to be one of Australia’s finest ports.

Today Australia’s smallest capital city boasts historical buildings, contemporary art and culture and now days most of the CBD’s waterfront has been reclaimed for destinations such as Sullivans Cove and Salamanca Place.

The port showcases Hobart’s sandstone buildings and the spinnakers on the water and is a popular place to relax, enjoy a coffee whilst listing to the street buskers or string quartets.
