About Mildura
Mildura - the Murray's Outback
Mildura is a major regional city of some 22 000 people 560 km north-west of Melbourne near the north-western tip of Victoria and at the centre of an area known as 'Sunraysia'. The city features wide, tree-lined streets and historical buildings including the Rio Vista Mansion, the Old Mildura Homestead, and the Grand Hotel.
It is surrounded by vast numbers of wineries and fruit growing farms.
The Murray River offers many activities, such as paddle steamer cruises, swimming, fishing and the popular activity of living on a hired house boat and cruising along the river for a number of days.
Mildura is home to a number of major festivals such as the Mildura Country Music Festival, the Mildura / Wentworth Arts Festival and the Mildura Jazz Food and Wine Festival
Mildura National Parks
Nearby national parks include the vast and isolated Murray-Sunset National Park, while the Hattah-Kulkyne National Park, between Mildura and Ouyen, features freshwater lakes.
20 minutes north-west of Mildura is the historical port town of Wentworth in New South Wales, where the Murray River meets Australia's longest river, the Darling River. And a 3 hour drive further north is the outback New South Wales mining town of Broken Hill.
