About Leonora and Laverton

You’ll find the mining towns of Leonora and Laverton is the midst of the Western Australian Goldfields.

While you are in the west a visit to the 2 mining towns of Leonora and Laverton is a must. These 2 historic towns sit in the centre of the Western Australian goldfields. At the Leonora tourist centre you can purchase lifetime memories of the area and if you are looking for a great home cooked meal cooked for you by the decendants of the great pioneers of the fabulous west then this is the place and you can also stay overnight or for a week in accommodation in the town.

Leonora is the town where the Nye family lived and in 1922 took their then 6 week old baby girl down to Kalgoorlie in the south on the back of a camel.

Don’t miss a visit to Laverton 400 ks. north of Kalgoorlie and 120 ks. east of Leonora. It’s another early 19th century gold mining town with it’s history firmly edged forever in the red soil of the great outback. Here you will find good country hospitality and old fashioned service with a smile. Ghost stories of the west forever haunt the past. The only remaining evidence of Burtville is the arch of the old hotel also the cemetery which has a strange story attached to it which says nobody rests easily except for a 6 month old baby.

Come on over. See for yourself. What are you waiting for!
