Here you can find information on:

Located 470km west of Queenslands capital Brisbane, Roma is itself a capital in it's own right. The town of nearly 7000 being famous for it's rich and distinguished history in Gas and Oil exploration, is the pivotal business centre for the  Western Downs.

Roma lays at the crossroads of the Warrego Hwy, Great Inland Way and the Carnarvon Development Rd. Nearby towns include Miles- east, Surat & St George- south, Mitchell- west and Injune and the breathtaking Carnarvon National Park to the north.
Other than the Gas and Oil element of Roma , she also is also home to Australias largest cattle sales, held every tuesday and thursday. Tourists are welcome to come along and join in the unique atmosphere of a true outback experience, something that would not usually enter the travellers itinary. With all the action, the call of the auctioneer, the fall of the hammer, the big hats and even bigger personalities and of course the smell of it, a day at the sales is a day not to be forgotten!

The most famous attraction in Roma would undoubtedly be the Big Rig, here you will learn all about Australias history in Oil and Gas exploration. From the first gas find in Roma over a 100 years ago, through to todays multi billion dollar industry, the museum houses a collection of photo's, facts, stories and equipment which piece together the industy as a whole.

Very little to Wine about here!

Established in 1863, Romavilla Winery holds the title as being Queensland's oldest winemaker. A visit to the winery is one of many must-do experiences while in town, as is the Cultural Centre, St Pauls Anglican Church, the Courthouse(est.1901), Mt Abundance Homestead and just a general wander through the bustling main streets(being McDowall and Wyndham).

"King of the Cattle Duffers".

The present courthouse replaced the original which held one of outback Australia's most famous trials. The legend of Harry Redford was  bought to public notice in Roma courthouse 2 years after he was charged with the theft of 1000 head of cattle from Bowen Station near Longreach. Redford allegedly stole the cattle and 'drove' them through country where no man had conquered, with an eventual sale in South Australia. Among the herd was one bull in particular, an unmistakeable big white bloke that gave the whole game away. Even with damning evidence against Redford, it is believed that the juror's were that captured by his bush skills, daring and panache, that he was found not guilty and let walk a free man, going on to successfully manage several large properties and perhaps bask in the 'glory' of being Australia's "King of the Cattle Duffers".

You'll feel reborn after a weekend in Roma!

Events wise, Roma never seams to relax. The pinnacle of Roma's event calender is undoubtedly Easter in the Country. Over the days of Easter each year the town crams more activities in then most outback towns will see in a year. With the famous Goat races, Country and Gospel music festivals, Picnic Horse Racing, a night Rodeo, Motorcross, Dragracing, markets, Collector and Hobbies fair, street parades and much, much more, there has to be something for everyone! Also when in town in November the Roma Cup horse racing day is a day to frock up and have a flutter, while enjoying some true outback hospitality.
