This town was established with the coming of the railways in 1879 and was named after the nearby Dulacca Station. Originally spelt "Doolachah" the name was derived from an aboriginal word meaning "emu tracks".

Dulacca was the site of the first push to eradicate the prickly pear, an environmental scourge of the region's farming land that at one stage covered an area of fifty million acres throughout the state.

Dulacca's hotel, known as the Waterhole on the Hill, dates from 1908. Today Dulacca is an attractive township which provides a welcome break along the Warrego Highway. A brief town history can be seen in a gazebo in the Lions Park.
