About Mitchell
Fisherman's Rest
Upstream from the Neil Turner Weir, Fisherman's Rest is a peaceful picnic and fishing spot with abundant flora and fauna and is the perfect location for a relaxed picnic. The Great Artesian Spa complex consists of two pools set in landscaped billabong like surrounds. The Water, naturally heated to 43 degrees Celsius, is pumped from the deep underground Great Artesian Basin. It has absorbed an abundance of minerals from deep within the earth's core. Local legend says that waters from the Great Artesian Basin have mythical healing powers. Take a Horse Drawn Wagon Tour and visit Neil Turner Weir and Rotary Park.35 km west from Mitchell are the ancient Ooline bottle trees standing guard over the nearby hotel. This roadside rest for travelers creates an awareness of the significance of these relics of previous times. Nearby Tregole National Park presents a mosaic of mulga scrub, rolling, brigalow plains and box floodplains. The park conserves large stands of Ooline trees.
