About YowahYowah offers the visitor plenty to see and do, modern facilities, great accommodation, and is a must when travelling to the outback.
Yowah is located approximately 1000km's west of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The town and surrounds is one of Australia's famous opal mining areas. Yowah is known for it's unique and distinctive matrix opal and much sought after "Yowah Nut" opal. Like many opal mining towns, visitors flock to enjoy the lifestyle of the easy going town and get struck by opal fever. The feeling that you could possibly 'strike it rich' with a little opal mining is as exciting Saturday night's Powerball. For enthusiasts there is a designated area for recreational fossicking close to town. You will need a licence. If doing it the hard way doesnt excite you, the easiest way to find Yowah's best opals is by a browse at one of the local opal and jewellery shops where you will find rough (uncut) and polished opals available for sale.Pack your camera!The region of Yowah boasts the most captivating landcapes in the Queensland outback. The harsh arid landscapes, with magnificent sunsets, make the view spectacular. Yowah Accommodation - Where can you stayThere isnt an enormous range of Yowah Accommodation. There is a caravan park and camping. Motorhomes and big rigs are welcome. Yowah events - Best time to visitThe best time to visit Yowah is during Winter. The sky is blue - the temperature around 24 degrees and the town makes for a brilliant winter escape. The local artesian bore makes a therapeutic day spa and you can relax your tired muscles after a hard day's travel or opal mining.
