Gunsynd and Rodeo Memorabilia Tribute Centre
Years in the planning, the little border town of Goondiwindi has set up a centre to acknowledge their very own folk heroes.
Gunsynd, the grey racehorse that has made Goondiwindi famous for so many years and who was an inaugural member of the Queensland Icons list, and the famous rodeo families of the District.
The Goondiwindi Tourist Information Centre everyday is peppered with requests for information from all over Australia regardind the great horse Gunsynd.
Visitors will now have an ideal opportunity to view Gunsynd's great feats and peruse the memorabilia on display.
His entire race finishes, some trophies, cups and a host of awards including the banner from his induction into the Australia Racing Hall of Fame are on display.
Surviving owner Bill Bishop often quips” it is unreal; my son Jack paid more for the banner than I paid for the horse”.
Bill Bishop, the only surviving owner of the great horse will officially open the “Goondiwindi Gunsynd and Rodeo Memorabilia Tribute”. The “Goondiwindi Gunsynd and Rodeo Memorabilia Tribute” was made possible due to the generosity of the owning families of Gunsynd and the rodeo families of the district.
Part of the collection is a rare rodeo photo in the of local hero “Johnny Roberts’ in Los Angeles with cowboy Roy Rogers and his horse Trigger.
