The Murray River Giant Pumpkin Competition has become a highlight of the Cadell Harvest Festival held on Easter Saturday each year to showcase the town and its diverse harvest.

The Murray River Giant Pumplin Competition has now been endorsed an official weigh-in site for the ‘THE GREAT PUMPKIN COMMONWEALTH’

With a grand prize of a return trip to San Francisco and transfers to the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin & Art Event (compliments MGA Insurance Brokers) up for grabs for the winner of the Heaviest Pumpkin; this event has attracted some serious attention from all over Australia.

Other categories include:

  • The Ugliest Pumpkin
  • Best Looking Pumpkin
  • Biggest Squash
  • Best Dressed Pumpkin. 

Last year’s winner from Byron Bay took out the grand prize with an amazing weight of 394 kilograms.

The festival also boasts a range of good old fashioned country style entertainment including:

  • Cockroach Racing
  • Grape Catching
  • Orange Throwing
  • Carp Tossing
  • An Easter egg hunt

Best Home brew, pickles and jam competitions, wine tastings, pumpkin cuisine, giant jumping castles for children, food and craft stalls as well as bar facilities are also available on the day.

The annual Scarecrow competition has become a highlight of the festival with categories such as:

  • Best Original Scarecrow
  • Best Movie Character Scarecrow
  • Most Humorous
  • Scariest Scarecrow

All creating an interesting spectacle as you enter town.
