Outback Now began as a passion project: a site for travellers who wanted to see the real Australia beyond the cities and beaches. Over many years it grew into one of the largest directories of regional and outback Australia online, with pages on hundreds of towns, events, tours, caravan parks and itineraries, plus a jobs bulletin for people working their way around the country.
The new Outback Now
In 2026 the site was rebuilt as an independent travel guide. Rather than thousands of thin listings, we now publish in-depth guides to the places, routes and events travellers ask about most — from Bourke and Birdsville to the Savannah Way — with safety and planning advice built in.
Our principles
- Accuracy first. We rely on official sources and link to them on every page. See our editorial policy.
- Safety matters. The outback rewards preparation. Our outback safety guide sits behind every route we recommend.
- Respect for Country and communities. We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the lands we write about and encourage travellers to support local and Aboriginal-owned businesses.
- Independence. We are not affiliated with any government body, tourism organisation or business mentioned on the site, and we are clear about how the site is funded.
Acknowledgement of Country
Outback Now acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their continuing connection to land, waters and culture. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
