Outback Now publishes independent travel guides to regional and outback Australia. This policy explains how we work.
How we research
Every guide is written by our editorial team from primary and official sources: state road authorities (Transport for NSW, QLDTraffic, SA's Department for Infrastructure and Transport, NT Road Report and Main Roads WA), national park agencies, the Bureau of Meteorology, local councils and visitor information centres, museums and event organisers. We list our key sources at the end of each page.
Facts that affect your safety
Road conditions, park closures, fire bans, event dates and opening hours change constantly. We do not publish prices or dates that go stale quickly; instead we link to the official source and ask readers to check before they travel. We do not invent statistics, ratings or quotes, and we do not present opinions as facts.
What we are not
We are not a government tourism body, an emergency service or a booking agent. Nothing on this site is an official road report or safety warning. In an emergency, call Triple Zero (000).
Rebuilt from the original Outback Now
This site continues the subjects of the original outbacknow.com.au. The text has been rewritten from scratch and re-checked; we have not copied old listings, which were often out of date.
How we make money
Outback Now is funded by affiliate links, and may in future carry display advertising and clearly labelled sponsored content. If you book through some links — for example GetYourGuide tours — we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Affiliate relationships never determine which towns, routes or attractions we cover or what we say about them. Commercial blocks are labelled, and sponsored content is always marked as sponsored.
Images
We use our own images or images licensed for reuse, mainly from Wikimedia Commons, and credit the creator and licence on our image credits page.
